Here
are the some housekeeping procedures you
can use to keep your Alpha Five database
running smoothly. If you are experiencing
problems, try these procedures first.

Delete
temporary files
Repeat
these steps for each computer that is running
Alpha Five.

Exit
Alpha Five.

Using
Windows Explorer, go to the folder where
Alpha Five is installed. Usually, this will
be C:\Program Files\A5V6.

Delete
all the files that begin with $$ (e.g. $$032300.Mpx). These are temporary
files and it is not harmful to delete them.

Rebuild
indexes
If
you are on a network, be sure all other users
exit Alpha Five. This procedure can be run
from any computer on the network. It only
needs to be run once.

Open
the your Alpha Five database. Close all windows
(forms, menus, etc.) in Alpha Five except
the Control Panel.

On
the Alpha Five Control Panel, click on the
Tables/Sets tab.

In
the Alpha Five Control Panel, the icon for a set has three small squares.
The icon for a table has one big square.
For each table, repeat the
following:

Right-click
on the table and choose Define Indexes. In
the Index Builder window, click the Build
button. Answer "Yes" to the message, "You
didn't make any changes. Rebuild all indexes?" Close
the Index Builder window.

Compact
the database
If you are on a network, be sure all other
users exit Alpha Five. This procedure can be
run from any computer on the network. It only
needs to be run once.

Close
all windows (forms, etc.) in Alpha Five except
the Control Panel.

From
the Alpha Five menu, choose File, Database Compact. This will take
5 or 10 minutes to run.
